10:15 update: Easter Bunny has been sighted. Groomers are great top to bottom and everything is softening up quickly. Groomers reporting in at 5am this Sunday morning under clear skies with no new snow. It is going to be another sunny day on the mountain with temperatures climbing as the day progresses. New corduroy has been nicely laid out for your enjoyment and firm pack will soften as it quickly warms with above normal seasonal temps expected. Put on your sunblock and be prepared to shed a layer. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt at noon. It is the last day of March, come up and get your spring skiing in! We are on our regular schedule; closed Monday & Tuesday, then open through Sunday April 7th. We will then look at possible weekend only opening to follow.
March 30 Fun Race
Groomers reporting at 5 am this morning with a trace of new snow. Again in the afternoon there was a period of time where snow fell while surface temps were above freezing, from big flakes to graupel right through sunshine. Today the air is drier and we should see rapidly warming temperatures, spring conditions and sunshine. Groomers have laid out corduroy and slopes will soften quickly. The Blacktail Mountain Ski Education Foundation is putting on a GS Race today on Emmons Ridge to benefit the race team, lots of divisions with medals & prizes for each, only $5 per racer, race starts at 10:30. Purchase your 2013-2014 Season Pass and use it for the rest of the season.
3-29 Good Friday
9:30 update: Patrol reporting in with groomers skiing great top to bottom. Firm pack softening up with quickly warming temps. Little breeze on top 0-4 from the south and high clouds. Groomers reporting in this morning under partly cloudy skies with light flurries. Yesterday afternoon snow formed in clouds above where it was below freezing and fell in big flakes for several hours and by closing the sun was out again. For two days we have had this happen with surface temp above freezing, it is really pretty, a little wet and fun to ride on. Today there’s a chance we may see the same with temps spring like. Snow has set up over night and will soften quickly with the groomers the best place to start your day. Buy your Season Pass for 2013-2014 and use it for the rest of this season. Lots happening this weekend with GS Race tomorrow, register between 8:30-10, the race starts at 10:30. Sunday there is an Easter Egg Hunt at noon.
3-28 Thrifty Thursday
9:30 update: Groomers great top to bottom, bit stiff off piste but softening up quickly. Groomers reporting in this morning at 5am under partly cloudy skies with a trace of new snow. Flurries about 3am on the grooming shift and yesterday afternoon around 2pm. Today forecast to be much the same as yesterday, sun popping in and out. It is going to be a nice spring day with corduroy perfectly groomed out top to bottom on our north facing slopes. It is Thrifty Thursday, $25 adult lift tickets for a full day of skiing. Saturday the Blacktail Mountain Ski Education Foudation will hold a GS Race for all ages and abilities, $5 registration fee to benefit the Race Team. Sunday is the annual Easter Egg Hunt at noon.
Wednesday 2-27
9:45 update: Patrol reporting groomers fantastic top to bottom and glades still powderlike. Groomers reporting in this Wednesday morning at 5am under the last full moon of this season. No new snow to report, a temperature of 25 degrees, slight wind from the south at 2-3 mph. Looks like a return to spring for this Easter week with partly cloudy skies, temps should warm into the day, just a small chance of snow in the forecast. Snow is still going to feel like winter with north facing slopes freshened by last weeks foot and a half of new snow. 2013-14 Season Passes on sale, purchase now and use for the rest of this season. CLOSED MONDAY & TUESDAY as is our regular operation schedule. We have had a fantastic week with fresh snow every day making for great conditions. Clouds are below rather than above, starry night and no lights visible in the valley. Yesterday was a crazy fun day with the Slope Style Event in the terrain park, so many worked to make it a great time and mother nature kicked in with fresh snow and terrific conditions. Thanks to all who made it happen! Today is going to be another beautiful day on the slopes, it is going to warm through the day. Get up here and enjoy excellent conditions, March is flying by. Saturday 3-23 Mini Shred
update 8:40: Sun is shining, temps climbing. It is a gorgeous day! Groomers reporting in at 5am this Saturday morning with 4 inches of new snow overnight and 6 on the 24 hour. What forecasters refer to as lake-effect snow, given our location above beautiful Flathead Lake, has brought on localized accumulation from periods of large flakes and heavy snow fall. Most of the snow fell early in the evening with continued light siftings. Clouds are high wind is calm. Temperature is 8 degrees so dress warmly and enjoy great snow conditions. Today is the Mini Shred Slope Style Event in the terrain park, registration this morning with competition running from 11:00 to 3. 3-22 Friday
3:30 update: What a day we have had today, everything from sunshine to snowfall and absolutely beautiful conditions. It is dumping snow, having accumulated several inches this afternoon the result of lake-effect snow. Forecast is for the Flathead lake-effect showers to continue into tomorrow morning with possible heavy accumulation. It is going to be a most excellent day for the Blacktail Mini Shred Slope Style Event! Sun popping through! 9:45 update: word from patrol is half to an inch of cold smoke, excellent conditions on runs, glades really nice as well. 8:40 update: it is so CALM the windsock is hanging straight down and snow is lightly sifting down. Going to be a great day, beautiful snow. Groomers reporting in this Friday morning at 5am under high clouds with half an inch of new snow on the 24 hour stake. There have been a few flurries during the night with clouds high and lights of the valley visible. There’s fresh corduroy rolled out for your carving pleasure. Winds have died down today as winter has settled in with cool temperatures and dry snow. Winds with new snow the last few days filled the glades in to where they’re like new. Tomorrow is the Mini Shred Slope Style Event in the terrain park. 9:50 update: Glades are like new and groomers excellent. Blustery on top with winds 8-12SW and temp holding. Off and on flurries from this system that is dropping out of Canada. Groomers reporting in at 5am with 7 inches of new snow on the 24 hour and 4 on the overnight. Powder for your Thrifty Thursday! There have been flurries all night off and on with visibility good at this report time, the lights of Kalispell bright and clouds above. Temperature has dropped to 17 degrees with 4-8 SW wind on the mountain top and gusting. Wind blew hard yesterday from the south yet the north facing slopes were protected and the snow was beautiful. Today will be more of the same with groomers being soft and powder being plentiful. It is Thrifty Thursday, adult tickets $25 for a full day of skiing or buy your season pass for 2013-14 and use it for the rest of this season. 3-20 Spring Equinox
8:50 update: Dumping snow and wind from the south gusting to 20mph. There are going to be some great stashes of nice dry snow! Groomers reporting in this Wednesday morning at 5am with flurries on the mountain and 3 inches of new snow since last report on Sunday. Weather is moving in with gusty wind from the south and off and on flurries through the night. Visibility is good with lights of Kalispell in view and cloud cover high. Today is the first day of spring and there are snowflakes in the forecast all the way through the weekend. Snow is grooming out nicely for excellent fresh corduroy, come up and enjoy winter conditions. Buy your season pass for the 2013-14 season and use it for the rest of the season.
