Spring skiing is upon us and the snow pack is deep at Blacktail Mountain Ski Area.  Currently, we have a settled base of 93 inches at the summit of Blacktail.  That’s quite a bit deeper than what is typical going into the Spring ski season.  With Blacktail’s North-facing terrain you can enjoy warmer temperatures and longer days and still have prime skiing conditions.  With the absence of direct light on the slopes we can retain our snow pack longer and the snow consistency is lighter and drier than South-facing terrain in the Spring.  In fact, most years we could stay open well into May with the conditions and snow pack that Blacktail experiences.  But there comes the day that the snow has melted in the Valley below and folks start golfing, gardening, boating, etc. and we lose participation.  That’s when we set a closing date, when folks basically tell us they are done and satisfied with a ski season well spent.

Spring is also a great time to get out and travel to other ski destinations.  In Montana we are fortunate enough to have 14 ski areas to choose from and even more unique many of Montana’s ski areas are operated by local families or small groups.  (view mom and pop ski tour map)  If you have a current Blacktail Mountain Ski Area Season Pass you can ski at the half day rate at any ski area or resort in the state of Montana and receive substantial lift ticket discounts at Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.
